General advice if you have LOST your cat

-    Take a good look around the house (including the shed/garage) as cats can often hide away in corners we wouldn't normally think of looking in.
-    Put up posters in your neighbourhood with a recent picture of your cat.  Ask local shops, vets, etc if they will display the posters.
-    If safe to do so, put a small poster in your car.
-   Contact cat rescue centres (such as SSPCA and Cats Protection, as well as any local animal rescue charities) in case they have taken your cat in.
-    Consider putting an advert in your local newspaper, and check the "found" section of the newspapers.
-    It's also important to add your missing cat to lost and found registers.  Below are details of some organisations who offer this service:

R.S.P.C.A - 08705 555999
Cats Protection - 0870 770 8649
Missing Pets Bureau - 0870 1600 999
Pet Search UK - 01225 705175
Petsearch have a website address, you can access this at
http://www.ukpetsearch.freeuk.com

If you e-mail your name, full address and postcode to Cats Protection HQ Helpline (helpline@cats.org.uk) they can search for any contacts for a CP organisation in your area, although bear in mind they may not have any on file.

General advice if you have FOUND a cat

-    Check if the cat really is lost, perhaps a neighbour has only recently got a new cat.
-    If at all possible, take the cat to your local vet who will check if the cat is microchipped. If it is, then it's very easy and quick to contact the cats owners and have them reunited. If you are unable to get the cat to the vet, please contact us and we will try to arrange for someone to scan the cat or take him/her to the vet to be scanned for a microchip.
-    Advertise that you have found a stray cat by putting up posters with a picture of the cat.  Ask local shops, vets, etc if they will display the posters.
-    If safe to do so, put a small poster in your car.
-    Contact your local cat rescue centres (such as SSPCA and Cats Protection) and ask them if they have any reports of a lost cat fitting the description of the one you've found. Also ask if they have space to take the cat in.
-    Contact organisations to register the cat you've found. Below are details of some who offer this service:

R.S.P.C.A - 08705 555999
